Grief and Loss

Going Over What You Could Have Done Differently Wears You Down

You go over it again and again: what you could have said, what you should have seen coming, what might have changed how the relationship turned out.

Every pass ends in the same place, and your mind heads back for another one anyway.

Most days you feel sad, anxious, and depressed, sometimes all three before noon.

And underneath it all, you want to move forward and have no idea how.

Your Relationship Ended, or Your Partner Died, and the Pain Looks the Same

If a breakup ended it, the friend group went with the relationship.

So the loss came twice: first the person, then the circle you’d built your weekends around.

If your significant other died, your story is different, and the sadness, worry, and low mood are the same.

Either way, you still have to pick up the pieces and go on with your own life.

Get a View of Your Loss That Friends and Family Can’t Give You

Talking with me is different from talking with a friend or family member: they mean well, but they know you.

Their comfort comes shaped by everything they already believe about you, and about the person you lost, too.

My job is to stay objective and help you see what happened in a different way.

Here you’ll feel safe and supported, without judgment, while we look at the questions you keep going over.

Find Out Why Your Loss Pulls on Older Pain

We start with talk therapy, and sometimes grief stirs up painful parts of your past that seem to have nothing to do with this loss.

When that happens, I use EMDR, a method I’m certified in, to take the emotional pain out of those older memories so they can be reprocessed.

What happened still happened, and you can think it through with a steadier mind once the pain stops getting in the way.

You decide whether we use EMDR after I’ve explained it and answered your questions, and if it isn’t helping, talk therapy carries the work forward.

Move Forward With Less Pain and More Hope

The goal is less emotional pain and more hope about what comes next.

The question of what you could have done differently comes around less, and it weighs less when it does.

There’s room again for new friendships, with people who meet you as you are now.

Give Your Next Relationship the Benefit of This Work

If someone new comes into your life down the road, that person will get the benefit of the work you put in now.

It starts with a free consultation, a 20 to 30-minute phone call.

My number is (904) 254-8421.

Or email me at greatfrontierscs@gmail.com, and we’ll find a time to talk.

Your Nerves About Starting Therapy Make Sense

Talking about your stress and trauma with someone new is a scary thing to do, especially the first time.

I’ve sat in the client’s chair more than once myself, so I know how much that first call asks of you.

Call me at (904) 254-8421 or email greatfrontierscs@gmail.com for a free consultation. I’ll explain how EMDR works, and we can talk about the belief you’d most like to change.
